Waterline Disinfectant Tablets

According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control) all dental units should use systems that treat water to meet drinking water standards (i.e., ≤ 500 CFU/ mL of heterotrophic water bacteria)*. Independent reservoirs—or water-bottle systems—alone are not sufficient. Commercial products and devices are available that can improve the quality of water used in dental treatment.

Surface Disinfectant

Surface_dis.jpg

Chlorine dioxide is 263% more effective than conventional chlorine solution, one of the most commonly used surface disinfectants worldwide. Other chemistries such as alcohols or quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) can provide reasonable efficacy against bacteria and fungi, but they are far less effective against viruses and mycobacteria and have no credible efficacy against bacterial spores in acceptable contact times.

Impression Disinfectant

Disinfection of dental impressions is an essential routine that aims to protect dental personnel, who handle impressions or casts, against exposure to diseases brought about by contact with microorganisms such as viruses; hepatitis B, hepatitis C, herpes, and HIV, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis . Impression materials that have been exposed to infected saliva and blood provide a significant source of such infectious agents.

Report in South Africa shows the results of Chlorine Dixode on Impression Materials. See here.
